Named after Lucy of Syracuse, Saint Lucia is the only state in the world named after a woman.
Saint Lucia is a volcanic island and peaks at 950 m above sea level at Mount Gimie. The St. Lucia Pitons are part of the volcanic chain of Qualibou, also called Soufrière, the main volcano of the island. These peaks look like two giant needles, emerging from the ocean depths, and giving the landscape of Saint Lucia, strength and character.
